GoDurham and GoTriangle are looking for input on the draft 2024-2028 Short Range Transit Plans.

2024

GoDurham

More direct connections to key destinations in North Durham, with alignment changes to Routes 1, 4, and 9 and the introduction of new Route 14 between North Durham and Duke.
More service at night and on Sundays with buses every 30 minutes on Route 9 at night on weekdays and Saturdays and during the day on Sundays.

2025

GoDurham

Sunday service until midnight on all GoDurham Routes.
More direct connections to key destinations in East, South, and West Durham, with alignment changes to Routes 3, 6, 8, 11, and 12 and the introduction of new Route 13 between the Village and NCCU.
More service at night and on Sundays with buses every 30 minutes on Routes 6, 7, 8, 12, and 16 at night on weekdays and Saturdays and all day on Sundays.

More buses midday and better connections through alignment and schedule changes on Routes 800 and 805.

2026

Buses every 15 minutes on Routes 4 and 9 until 7pm on weekdays and Saturdays.

** New Route 100X has funding allocated starting in 2031, but GoTriangle is currently working to identify resources to begin service on the route in 2026.

PROPOSED ROUTE CHANGES

GoDurham Proposed Bus Route Changes through 2028

Route 1

Route 2

Routes 3, 3B, 3C

Proposed Route(s): 3, 13, 16

Route 3 will run every 15 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays until 7pm and every 30 minutes after 7pm and on Sundays on the full route path.

Route 3B will be renamed to Route 16 to reduce confusion with Route 3. Service will run every 30 minutes all day, every day.

Route 3C will be replaced by a new Route 13 south of The Village, connecting to NCCU and Durham Tech every 30 minutes all day, every day.

Route 4

Proposed Routes: 4L, 4H, 9G, 9D

Route 4 will have two variations, 4-Horton (4H) and 4-Milton (4M), with Route 4M starting in 2024. Route 4M will run every 30 minutes all day,every day, extending north from North Duke Crossing to Milton Rd and Tom Wilkinson Rd to serve the northern part of N Roxboro St previously served by Route 9B. It will also serve the new Northern High School. Near downtown, it will travel directly on N Mangum St (inbound) and N Roxboro St (outbound). The Senior Center on Rigsbee St will be served by Route 9.

New Route 4H will run every 30 minutes on weekdays and Saturdays until 7pm between Durham Station, Duke Regional Hospital, and North Duke Crossing via N Roxboro St. With Routes 4H and 4M combined, there will be service between Durham Station and North Duke Crossing every 15 minutes Mon-Sat until 7pm and every 30 minutes after 7pm and on Sundays.

Route 8

Route 9, 9A, 9B

Proposed Routes: 1, 4, 14, 9D, 9G, 9N

Routes 9, 9A, and 9B will be replaced by Routes 9-Danube (9D) and 9-Glenbrook (9G).
Together, Routes 9D and 9G will provide service every 30 minutes all day, every day to Bragtown on Dearborn Dr, connecting Duke Regional Hospital, the Durham Senior Center on Rigsbee Ave (previously served by Route 4) and downtown.
Route 9G will serve Rigsbee Av, Dowd St, Avondale Dr, Club Blvd, Glenbrook Dr, Dearborn Dr, Old Oxford Rd, Meriwether Rd, Carver St, and Duke Regional Hospital, every 60 minutes at all times.
Route 9D will serve not serve Glenbrook Dr or Meriwether Dr, but will serve Rigsbee Av, Dowd St, Avondale Dr, Club Blvd, Dearborn Dr, Old Oxford Rd, Duke Regional Hospital, Ben Franklin Blvd, Danube Ln, and Hebron Rd, every 60 minutes at all times.
Route 9A’s current service west of North Duke Crossing will be replaced by Route 1 and a new Route 14. Route 9B’s existing service north of North Duke Crossing to Northern High School will be replaced by Route 4M.Route 8 will run every 30 minutes all day, every day and be extended to serve Riddle Rd and E Cornwallis Rd (currently served by Route 12 and 12B). The change means that Route 8 will directly connect these areas to Durham Tech and NCCU. Capps St will be served by a new Route 13.
Routes 9D and 9G will each run more often so that there is a bus every 15 minutes connecting Bragtown and Downtown Monday – Saturday until 7pm, and every 30 minutes in the evenings and Sundays.

Route 10, 10B

Route 11, 11B

Proposed Routes: 6, 11C, 11H

Route 11 will be renamed 11-Hillsborough (11H) and extended along Hillsborough Rd to Sparger Rd to serve Food Lion and Vocational Rehab.

New Route 11-Crest (11C) will provide service to Crest St (replaces current Route 6). There will be service between Durham Station and Duke/VA Medical Centers every 15 minutes with Routes 11H and 11C combined.

Both Routes 11C and 11H will run on Markham Av instead of Green St between Broad St and Ninth St. The change will make the route more direct.Route 10B will continue to operate every 30 minutes until 7pm Monday - Saturday. James St and Nation St will continue to be served hourly.Routes 9D and 9G will each run more often so that there is a bus every 15 minutes connecting Bragtown and Downtown Monday – Saturday until 7pm, and every 30 minutes in the evenings and Sundays.

Route 12, 12B

Proposed Routes: 8, 12, 800, 805

Route 12 will run every 30 minutes all day, every day and be adjusted to stay on NC 55. (Route 8 will serve Riddle Rd and Cornwallis Rd.)
Route 12 will continue to serve Falls Pointe Apartments on S. Alston Rd before returning to Durham Station.

Route 12 service along NC 54 and Route 12B will be replaced by GoTriangle Routes 800 and 805. Route 800 will run on NC 54 between Regional Transit Center (RTC) and Southpoint. Route 800 will run every 30 minutes Monday – Saturday until 7pm and every 60 minutes after 7pm and on Sundays.

Route 805 will provide service to Southpoint, Woodcroft, Jordan High School, Hope Valley Commons, and Chapel Hill all day on weekdays, but will not serve NC-54 destinations between Southpoint and RTC.

Riders going to Downtown Durham can transfer from Routes 800 and 805 to Route 5 at Southpoint, Route 12 at NC 54/55 and Route 700 at RTC.Both Routes 11C and 11H will run on Markham Av instead of Green St between Broad St and Ninth St. The change will make the route more direct.Route 10B will continue to operate every 30 minutes until 7pm Monday - Saturday. James St and Nation St will continue to be served hourly.Routes 9D and 9G will each run more often so that there is a bus every 15 minutes connecting Bragtown and Downtown Monday – Saturday until 7pm, and every 30 minutes in the evenings and Sundays.

Route 20

Eliminated

Route 20 was identified for elimination by the Durham Transit Plan that was adopted in June 2023 due to its low ridership in an area with low transit propensity. Its resources are used to support improvements to other GoDurham routesRiders going to Downtown Durham can transfer from Routes 800 and 805 to Route 5 at Southpoint, Route 12 at NC 54/55 and Route 700 at RTC.Both Routes 11C and 11H will run on Markham Av instead of Green St between Broad St and Ninth St. The change will make the route more direct.Route 10B will continue to operate every 30 minutes until 7pm Monday - Saturday. James St and Nation St will continue to be served hourly.Routes 9D and 9G will each run more often so that there is a bus every 15 minutes connecting Bragtown and Downtown Monday – Saturday until 7pm, and every 30 minutes in the evenings and Sundays.

NEW ROUTES

Proposed Routes: 13, 14

Route 13 is a new direct route that will connect NCCU and Durham Tech to The Village. It will follow the current 3C route south of The Village. Route 13 will serve Capps St (previously served by Route 8). Route 13 will run every 30 minutes until 7pm every day.

Route 14 is a new direct route that will connect Duke Clinics, Duke and VA Medical Centers, Hillandale Rd, North Duke Crossing, and Duke Regional Hospital. It will replace parts of Routes 1, 6, 9 and 9A. It will create connections between destinations in West and North Durham. Route 14 will run every 30 minutes until 7pm and every 60 minutes after 7pm every day.

GoTriangle Proposed Bus Route Changes through 2028

100,700

Proposed Routes: 100X

Routes 100 and 700 will be combined into a new Route 100X, an all-day one-seat ride between Durham and Raleigh. It will provide service every 15 minutes on weekdays until 7pm, every 30 minutes until 9 pm on weekdays and on weekends until 7pm, and hourly weekdays after 9pm and weekends after 7pm.

The new Route 100X will have limited stops, connecting Raleigh, NCSU, Regional Transit Center (RTC), Hub RTP, Durham Tech, NCCU, and Durham Station. All day timed connections to the airport will be available on the RDU shuttle.

RDU

Proposed Routes: RDU

RDU Shuttle will provide timed connections to buses serving Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Morrisville, and RTP at Regional Transit Center (RTC). Service will be increased to include weekday evenings until midnight. Sunday service will be increased to every 30 minutes.The new Route 100X will have limited stops, connecting Raleigh, NCSU, Regional Transit Center (RTC), Hub RTP, Durham Tech, NCCU, and Durham Station. All day timed connections to the airport will be available on the RDU shuttle.

DRX

Proposed Route(s): DVX, 100X

The DRX will become an all-day service, running every 45 minutes during peak commute times and every 60 minutes midday and until 8pm. It will continue to provide an express trip between Duke and VA Medical Centers, Durham Station, NCSU, and Downtown Raleigh on weekdays.RDU Shuttle will provide timed connections to buses serving Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Morrisville, and RTP at Regional Transit Center (RTC). Service will be increased to include weekday evenings until midnight. Sunday service will be increased to every 30 minutes.The new Route 100X will have limited stops, connecting Raleigh, NCSU, Regional Transit Center (RTC), Hub RTP, Durham Tech, NCCU, and Durham Station. All day timed connections to the airport will be available on the RDU shuttle.

Proposed Routes: 400

Route 400 will provide consistent service every 15 minutes between Chapel Hill, Patterson Place, Duke and VA Medical Centers, and Downtown Durham on weekdays until 7pm, every 30 minutes on weekdays until 9pm and on weekends until 7pm, and every 60 minutes on weekdays after 9pm and weekends after 7pm.

To make service every 15 minutes possible, Route 400 will no longer serve Southwest Durham Drive, University Drive, and South Square.

GoDurham Route 10 will continue to serve University Dr and South Square every 30 minutes. Connections to Route 10 can be made at Patterson Place.

800

Proposed Routes: 800

Route 800 will travel on NC54 instead of I-40 between Regional Transit Center (RTC) and Southpoint. The route will connect UNC, Chapel Hill, Southpoint, Hub RTP and RTC every 30 minutes Monday – Saturday until 7pm, and every 60 minutes after 7pm and on Sundays.

Route 800 will replace segments of GoDurham Routes 12 and 12B and GoTriangle Route 805 along NC 54. Riders can transfer to Routes 5 and 805 at Southpoint, Route 12 at NC 54/55, and Route 100X at RTC.Route 405 will provide service from Carrboro to Durham on weekday mornings and from Durham to Carrboro on weekday afternoons. It will serve Patterson Place on all trips.

800S

805

Proposed Routes: 800, 805

Route 805 will become an all-day weekday route, with service every 30 minutes during peak periods and every 60 minutes midday and in the evening. To make this possible the route will be shortened to run between Southpoint, Woodcroft, Jordan High School, Hope Valley Commons, Chapel Hill, and UNC, and route 800S will be eliminated.
Route 800 will provide service along NC 54 between Southpoint and RTC every 30 minutes Monday-Saturday until 7pm, and every 60 minutes after 7pm and on Sundays.Route 420 will continue to operate during peak periods only.

420

CRX

Proposed Routes: CRX

Route CRX will be realigned to use NC 54 between I-40 and UNC in both directions at all times. This change will make the CRX faster and more reliable.
It will serve a new park-and-ride at the NC 54 and I-40 interchange for commuters to NCSU and Raleigh; it will no longer serve the Eubanks Park-and-Ride. The new routing will provide better access to UNC Hospitals and improve connections between the CRX and all Chapel Hill Transit routes at UNC.

Overall travel time will be similar for current park and ride users at the new lot compared to the current Eubanks lot – although driving time to the new lot may be longer for some users, travel time on the bus will be shorter for all park and ride users. Additionally, travel times will be shorter for riders transferring from CHT to the CRX or who walk or bike to the CRX in Downtown Chapel Hill.

ODX

Proposed Routes: ODX

Route ODX will be realigned to provide a faster and more direct trip between Mebane, Hillsborough, and Durham. The bus will make stops at Downtown Mebane, Mebane Cone Health Park and Ride, Hillsborough along US 70, a new Park and Ride at US 70 and Miller Rd, Duke and VA Medical Centers, and Durham Station in both directions during morning and afternoon peak periods.

Route ODX will no longer serve the Durham Technical Community College Orange County Campus. Riders traveling to Durham Tech can connect to Route 420 at the new Park and Ride on US 70.
